The AGSB Islamic Society recently organized a large scale “Champions League” inspired football tournament, with over 10 clubs being represented by pupils of all ages in the hopes of winning the bragging rights over their peers!
Students were able to form their own teams to try and win the competition. In addition to winning the tournament, various other awards were up for grabs too, such as the “Player of the Tournament” and the “Golden Boot” awards which were won by students who demonstrated the absolute best sporting ability AGSB has to offer, showing their abilities to succeed against adversity.
Much like the current Champions League, tensions were high throughout the event and the football prowess demonstrated by each team was higher still – however after an intense group stage and profoundly animated knockout rounds, one team emerged as the best team on the field - Manchester United - who managed to win their second tournament in a row as a team!
This competition was part of the ISoc’s Unity through Charity campaign, which will also comprise of an own clothes day and the annual Asian Food Sale to help raise funds for the victims of the devastating earthquakes that hit Southern Turkey and Northern Syria. The Islamic Society will work together with the charity Islamic Relief.
As always, we would like to thank the PE department, who allowed us to use the Grammar facilities and Mr Olney, who helped to invigilate the event itself. Finally, we would like to thank the dozens of students involved in helping us manage this campaign – allowing us to raise an outstanding amount for charity, which will be sent directly to help victims of the earthquakes as part of the UTC campaign.
Jazak'Allah Khair (may God reward you with good),
Islamic Society Committee
